A melhor teoria de LOST que li hoje

A little summary of my theory: the mysteries in Lost come from some people on the island having an advanced technology unknown from the general public. Those people descend from survivors of a LOST civilisation, the megalithic civilisation, which was very advanced scientifically and technologically. Those survivors are engineers and scientists who kept the memory of the ancient science and technology, then used it to impress those who had never known them, several generations after the astronomical catastrophe which destroyed their society. Pretending to be gods, wizards or superior beings of some kind they would have become the leaders of the other groups of survivors, organising them to rebuild civilisation.

I have been researching this theory for three years as a real historical explanation for some huge anachronisms in technical achievements attributed to the Egyptians. Here are the main ideas.

Ancient Egypt is the symbol of the eternal mystery which is beyond our current abilities of understanding and even of imagining. The statue of the last episodes is a reference to the colossi of Memnon. Jacob and his nameless friend who don’t age and play the simple mortals like pawns in their schemes are very alike to the God-kings of Egypt. Indeed Egypt was a theocracy: people were convinced that their king was a god and called him “Horus”. Maybe those God-kings were scientists and engineers of an older advanced civilisation (Atlantis, Mu, whatever you want to call it) which had collapsed very suddenly because of a world-wide apocalypse of natural catastrophes brought by a comet. Some survivors would have saved a part of the ancient knowledge and used it to rebuild civilisation from scratch. Technological devices like electricity or fire arms could have been used to impress those who had gone back to the stone age. Performing “magic” would indeed help looking like a god. And a cell phone or an electric torch would look like very much like magic indeed, even to a reasonable person of the 19th century.
Let me elaborate on those points.

The colossi of Memnon are two monolithic Egyptian statues made out of quartzite, a rock which is almost as hard as diamond (7th degree on the Mohs scale). They weigh over 1300 tons each and are now to be found more than 400 miles from their quarry of origin. Their shape and their finishing is still extremely refined on the parts which have not been vandalized. There is no explanation of how a society of the stone age might have worked igneous stone so accurately and on such a scale, without mentioning the problem of transportation against the course of the Nile.

On the whole ancient Egypt is an anachronism, an encounter between ancient history and science-fiction. The major buildings of the so-called “Old Kingdom” are clearly the product of an INDUSTRIAL society, in particular the great pyramids of Giza. Industry is defined by two criteria: mass production and standardization. The Great Pyramid of Giza is obviously an industrial achievement since it is built from several millions of tons of stone. Egyptologists think each pyramid was built during the reign of a king, which means a maximum time period of 30 years. Producing more than three million tons of stone blocks in about 30 years is undoubtedly mass production; squaring them and sizing them so that they fit in regular courses is standardization.

The theory according which the pyramids would have been built as tombs for kings is based on no reliable archaeological or documentary evidence. On the 105 Egyptian pyramids none contained an original burying, that is the mummy of a king of the Old Kingdom. Human parts have been found in three minor pyramids but C14 tests proved they had been put there more than a thousand years after the construction of the pyramid itself. Obviously a few pyramids have been used as tombs long after the society which built them had collapsed and disappeared. But their whole architecture denies the theory that they would have been meant as tombs at the time of their construction. The technical and scientific means necessary for building them also prove they could not have been erected by a society of the stone age which had not yet invented bronze or the wheel, as mainstream egyptologists claim.

The 24 granite coffers of the Serapeum are also a huge anachronism which doesn’t actually fit anywhere in the current egyptological mainstream theory. Those boxes are so tall that a grown man can stand under the massive lid. They weigh between 60 and 130 tons and were all carved out of a single bloc of granite. The faces are flat, the corners square and sharp. The official explanation is that those were coffins for sacred bulls, but as usual no remains of any kind have ever been found in any of those boxes. And it wouldn’t make any sense to make them 6 feet high if they were meant to bury bulls.

Moreover such mastery in working amazing masses of extremely hard stone with perfect precision could not have been achieved without the use of a source of energy comparable to electricity, like electro-magnetism for instance. The transportation of megalithic stones and colossi on hundreds of miles could not have happened without it. Some gigantic slabs can be found in very confined space deep under the rock of the Giza plateau, like in the pyramid attributed to Khefren for example. There is no room there for more than a few persons to pull or carry anything, but somehow those huge slabs were placed and lined precisely in the area which was planned for them.

Mainstream Egyptology keeps sticking to its paradigm despite the huge contradictions it shows, probably because no other explanation seems to match the facts any better.
However there is a theory which is coherent and covers several subjects present in the scenario of Lost. It is that in ancient times a gigantic comet came close enough to the Earth to modify its speed of rotation momentarily. This would have devastating effects on the whole planet. Indeed the exterior points of a sphere turn more fastly than the ones closer to the center : they go a longer distance at every turn than the points near the center do, and speed is defined by the distance/time ratio. It’s no problem for the wheel of a bicycle because it is homogeneous, but the Earth isn’t. The atmosphere is not attached to the upper crust of the lithosphere, and neither are the oceans. Besides, the upper crust of the lithosphere lies on a viscous magma which separates it from the other layers underneath. Therefore if you slow the rotation down suddenly the different spheres will slide on each other because they won’t have the same speed anymore. Because of inertia the exterior layers would change speed less quickly than the inner ones.
That means apocalypse, plain and simple. Hurricanes beyond anything we can imagine, the oceans rushing all over the continents, earthquakes, mountains falling down and others rising up from former plains, volcanic eruptions filling the air with smoke and ashes, making temperature drop by preventing sunlight to reach the surface, bringing the advent of an ice age. It is one of the theories for the sudden extermination of dinosaurs, as well as the numerous other mass extinctions indicated by the geological record.

Such apocalyptic events are described with very precise concurring details by the myths of all ancient civilisations, from the Mayas and the Incas to China, Egypt and Babylon. It is part of the numerous universal myths just as the deluge is. “Worlds in Collision” by Immanuel Velikovsky gives all the mythic and historical evidence in detail.

In particular, the 10 plagues of Egypt in the Old Testament describe very accurately what would happen if the tail of a comet entered the atmosphere of the Earth. The tail of a comet contains meteors, ice, dust and plenty of flammable gases like carbon and hydrogen. The ten plagues of Egypt describe a rain of rocks, fire and oil (called “napht” by the ancients). Buildings fall over people, the Nile takes the colour of blood because of the iron oxide falling from the sky, and there is so much dust in the air that it brings 7 days and nights of darkness which fire can not pierce.
Cherry on the cake, the arm of God in the sky points the direction of the wholly land of Palestine for the Hebrews. That is undoubtedly a comet.
The parting of the Red Sea might have actually happened. Civilisations of Southern America describe how the oceans once rose like walls of water and stood still before they crashed on land in a huge tsunami. As tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon, it suggests a sudden disturbance of the gravitational balance of the earth by a comet flying by. The rain of oil is also mentioned in South America, in connection with the rising of the ocean.

All these minor disturbances seem to have happened around 1500 b.c but there were probably worst ones before, from which no memory was kept. A good Terminator leaves no witness. Velikovsky’s idea is that this comet was actually Venus, which had a tail and an errand trajectory before it stabilised on its current orbit. The gravitational influence of the Earth might have led it to its position after several near-collisions. Space exploration, especially the Viking Probe, confirmed many of Velikovsky’s predictions on the planet. It has a 30 000 miles long plasma tail, which is the characteristic of comets. Its geology is as chaotic as one of a very young planet: there is a 5000 miles long river of lava on the surface and the number of meteor impacts is strikingly low considering the very thin atmosphere of Venus. The planet turns on itself very slowly, and in the opposite direction from the other planets of our solar system.
The Babylonians astronomers are famous for their surprisingly accurate astronomical observations and refered to Venus as “The comet”. In many ancient civilisations the name of the planet means “the stars which smokes” or “the star with hair”, referring to its cometary tail. Read Worlds in Collision, it’s full of heavy evidence !

To come back to Lost, this is the kind of catastrophe which could have destroyed an advanced civilisation, leaving only megalithic architecture as a trace of its brilliant achievements. And maybe Jacob and his likes seem like “gods” to us because they are a few centuries ahead. Their knowledge and power might seem as trivial to them as using the internet would feel for the average person of the 21st century. The mystery and magic of today is the common knowledge and basic technology of tomorrow.

The numerous references to Ancient Egypt of the last episodes suggests that the gods of ancient polytheist civilisations are involved. In the Hindu myths, the Vedas, the gods rule humans and fight each other with planes, nuclear bomb (see the destruction of Mohenjo-daro, the ancient Lanka) and other weapons of massive destruction which are probably still beyond our current technological level. The greek gods used humans to fight each other, as in the war of Troy for instance. And the greek gods are derived from the egyptian gods. Those had a very human behaviour, fighting each other, betraying each other, having sex, growing old, getting sick, dying, etc. The story of Osiris especially is very interesting, and all christians know it whithout being aware they do. Osiris was the leader of the 12 egyptian gods (like the 12 apostles). One of those, Seth (call him Judas if you like) convinced the others to betray Osiris by locking him in a box. Then they killed him by knocking nails in the box, which looks strangely similar to crucifiction to me. Then Osiris is resurrected thanks to the assistance of Isis. In the story of Jesus it is not Mary-Magdalena who initiates the resurection, but she is still a major character, present but passive. The early christians were probably more machist than the ancient egyptians. Anyway the story of Christ is a gross plagiat of the story of Osiris, but my point is that Jacob and co. look a lot like ancient gods. And beyond that the references to ancient Egypt mean a lot more to me.

To me the whole message in Lost is that the island is an allegory for all world mysteries which science has not explored yet. The message is that science of the 21st century is still relatively primitive considering the extreme complexity of the reality it has to explore. And the scenario unfolds the same way science and human consciousness progress: the most you learn, the most you become aware that there is much more to discover. Every answer brings a thousand new questions. In the 19th century most physicists thought that their materialist and determinist view of the world applied to everything and that soon the research in physics would come to an end because all the questions would be answered. It was as naïve and simplistic as Fukuyama writing that the fall of the Soviet Union was bringing “the end of history”. Quantum physics is extremely puzzling, throwing away the whole determinist faith and showing that physics is still unable to produce a unified theory of the structure of matter. Research in biology proves that natural selection is not the cause of evolution because mutations happen so fastly that they cannot be caused by “chance and necessity”, as Darwin said.

Therefore the message of Lost is very positive, it is that we should not take for granted that we understand almost everything and that there is no mystery left. The references to Ancient Egypt are a very appropriate way to convey that message.
